Technological advances, storage capacity, and computing power have led to the emergence of cloud computing. A newer and more advanced technology, based on the cloud, is replacing the costly and time-consuming process of buying servers, installation, hardware, and licenses. 

The transition to the cloud can be challenging. Thus, selecting the right platform will be a critical decision that may impact the short-term and long-term goals of the company. Several vendors have been catching up to the growing cloud computing market, including IBM, Microsoft certification, Google certification, Oracle cloud certification, and Amazon. 

Here is a comparison of the two largest cloud service providers, Oracle Cloud and Amazon Web Services (AWS):

What is Oracle Cloud?

The Oracle Cloud certification program provides developers and business users with efficient deployment for servers, storage, applications, and networks. Here are the four Oracle training Cloud services under the Oracle brand.

1.  Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (IaaS): Customers can develop and run numerous services and applications in Oracle’s hosted environment with the IaaS solution from Oracle. 

2.  Oracle Cloud Applications (SaaS): Oracle’s SaaS offering is called Oracle Cloud Applications. They offer differentiated services and products that are industry-specific and have various deployment options to meet standardized requirements. 

3. Oracle Cloud Platform (PaaS): An Oracle-certified associate can create, deploy, integrate, and extend cloud-based applications using the Oracle Cloud Platform. To provide organisations with autonomous solutions, Oracle combines artificial intelligence with machine learning. Oracle Cloud Platform offers various business services, including Application Development, Business Analytics, Data Management, Integration, Management, Security, Content, and experience.

4.  Oracle Data Cloud (DaaS): Oracle ID Graph allows the platform to leverage external data sources. Advertisers and businesses who wish to understand the customer fully can use this service to develop a cross-channel understanding of their customers.

What are AWS?

AWS stands for Amazon Web Services. It is a platform that offers flexible, reliable, scalable, user-friendly and affordable cloud computing solutions. AWS is Amazon’s comprehensive and easy-to-use computing platform.

The platform was developed using a combination of proposed infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and bundled software as a service (SaaS).

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a cloud service provider that offers infrastructure and platform as a service solution. Users can access various cloud services from Amazon, including server, storage, networking email, remote computing, and security solutions. Amazon Web Services offers services for prominent websites like Netflix and Instagram. 

1.    Storage:

·      Amazon Glacier: A solution for archiving data for an extended period. Although backup items stored in deep storage are rarely used, they are secure and safe.

·      Amazon S3: Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) provides limitless storage space through its web-based interface. AWS S3 is the most commonly supported cloud storage option as all other AWS services discussed here can read and write from S3.

·      Amazon EBS: Amazon’s Elastic Block Store (EBS) is used to store block data on EC2 instances. 

2. Compute

  • Amazon EC2: Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) allows users to scale up or down their computing resources. You can launch as many private virtual servers as necessary while maintaining network and security functionality.

3.  Databases

·      Amazon RedShift: The application acts as a service for web hosting and data management, allowing users to store and manage large amounts of data.

·      Amazon DynamoDB: DynamoDB is a NoSQL database managed by Amazon Web Services that provides scalability, flexibility, and high performance, perfect for mobile, gaming, and advertising applications.

·      Amazon ElastiCache: It is a service that provides an in-memory cache service and data store that provides high performance equivalent to that of DynamoDB.

·      Amazon RDS: The Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) is similar to and applicable to Oracle and MySQL. It is used to handle the management of relational databases.

4.  Tools

  • Amazon CloudWatch: CloudWatch offers users the ability to track various aspects of their cloud environment, including CPU utilization, disk reads, and network traffic.

·      AWS IAM: The Identity and Access Management (IAM) feature of AWS enables users to manage identities and IT administrative control over access to various AWS resources.

·      Amazon CloudFormation: This platform makes it possible to simultaneously set up multiple AWS services in a common language.

·      Amazon Elastic Beanstalk: It is an orchestration tool for deploying and managing web applications that utilize resource provisioning, load balancing, and other features.

Conclusion

As a result of its flexible payment model, Amazon Web Services can easily be adapted to changing business requirements. Oracle Cloud also offers flexibility that users can take advantage of depending upon how often they require service.
